5 Quick Ways to Prevent Injuries on the Golf Course

4 min read

We have all been guilty of jumping out of the car and running straight for the first tee. Although golf is not a game we typically associate with injury, the repetitive nature of the swing and the hours spent on the course can take a toll on your body. Taking a few minutes to prepare properly can keep you playing comfortably all season long.

1. Warm Up Before You Play

Spend 10–15 minutes stretching and warming up before your round. Focus on your shoulders, hips, and lower back — the areas most commonly stressed during a golf swing. A few minutes on the practice green or driving range will also help you get your timing dialed in before the first tee.

2. Use Proper Swing Mechanics

Poor swing mechanics are one of the leading causes of golf injuries. Consider taking a lesson with one of our PGA professionals to ensure your technique is sound. Small adjustments can make a big difference in both your game and your long-term health.

3. Stay Hydrated

Dehydration can lead to muscle fatigue and cramping, which increases injury risk. Drink water consistently throughout your round, especially during warm weather. Stop by the Ridge Bar & Grill before your round to fuel up properly.

4. Wear Proper Footwear

Golf shoes provide the stability and traction needed to support your swing. Wearing improper footwear can lead to slipping, ankle sprains, and back strain. Our pro shop carries a full selection of golf shoes to keep you comfortable and stable on the course.

5. Know Your Limits

If something hurts, stop. Pushing through pain is a fast track to a more serious injury. Listen to your body, take breaks when needed, and consider a lesson to address any swing issues that may be causing discomfort.
